Hormone therapy

Most breast cancers are hormone-sensitive: a tumor is said to be hormone-sensitive when it has receptors for estrogen or progesterone. The presence of these hormones, produced by the body, stimulates the growth of tumor cells.

The histological examination of the biopsy or surgical specimen will determine whether or not a tumor has estrogen and progesterone hormone receptors.
