Hair loss or alopecia

Chemotherapy acts on cells that multiply rapidly, which is the case for cancer cells, but also for hair, eyelashes and eyebrows, as well as for nails

• Hair loss is the most feared. It is not systematic and depends on the type of chemotherapy. It is possible to limit the risk of hair loss with fractionated chemotherapy or with a cold cap: the oncologist will detail the type of treatment and its effects during the first visit.
• A few weeks after the end of chemotherapy, the hair begins to grow back and usually regains its original appearance, but may initially have a different texture and color.

Wigs

Some wigs create a very natural result. There are different types of wigs, made of natural or synthetic hair: your health insurance company can cover the remaining costs, ask your insurance company for more information.

Eyelashes, eyebrows and nails

Eyelashes, eyebrows and nails are also affected by chemotherapy. As well as the cold cap, there are cooling mittens and socks.

To prevent the effects of chemotherapy on your nails, you can apply a silicon varnish. It is also recommended to protect your hands with gloves during manual or domestic work and to apply moisturizing cream regularly.
