Deformities are often ignored: teenagers do not dare to talk to their parents about them. It is important to consult a breast specialist who will make the diagnosis, reassure the young women and explain the different repair possibilities. Early treatment will prevent these adolescents from anxiety.
The deformities can affect the mammary gland (shape and volume), the areola and the nipple, sometimes even the pectoral muscle.
The best known are:
- Tuberous breasts: This is a common deformity. The breast has a tubular shape, narrow and is often of small volume. It appears deformed. The submammary fold is too high and the areolas are large and bulging. The breasts are often asymmetrical.
- Poland Syndrome: it is rare and characterized by a breast asymmetry, with a partial or total absence of the pectoralis major muscle. It can be associated with deformities of the ribs, other muscles of the thorax, and rarely even of the hand on the same side.
The combination of several techniques allows to obtain an optimal result:
- Augmentation by filling and/or prosthesis. Filling allows for the selective filling of one or more specific areas of the breast.
- Reduction of the largest breast.
- Correction of the shape of the breast, lifting of the skin, repositioning of the areolas and reduction of their size.
The used technique will depend on the deformities, the volume of the breasts and the quantity of fat that can be removed. In young women, we prefer techniques without foreign bodies in order to obtain a stable result and to avoid re-operations to change the prosthesis in the long term.
The surgery can be covered by the Social Security. An agreement subject to prior agreement is sent to your primary health insurance fund, which will confirm coverage.
