Keeping your femininity despite breast cancer

Breast cancer treatment is increasingly “tailored”.

In about 70% of breast cancers, it is possible to preserve the breast, in 30% of cases it is necessary to perform a mastectomy. The side effects of treatment are more limited and the quality of life during treatment is improved.

When the breast is preserved, thanks to oncoplasty techniques, it is possible to leave the breast in a harmonious shape. It is more often possible to do an immediate reconstruction despite radiotherapy.

In the case of chemotherapy, the possibility of pregnancy is increasingly being preserved thanks to the use of a drug, Goserelin, and also thanks to the oocyte conservation and in vitro fertilization.

Preoperative radiotherapy can, in some cases, replace the too numerous sessions of postoperative radiotherapy.

Genomic tests help to determine the indication for chemotherapy.

Targeted therapies can selectively destroy certain cancers with very few side effects. Immunotherapy offers very interesting prospects. Reconstruction looks increasingly natural thanks to fat autografts (lipofilling) and autologous flaps (TIEP, latissimus dorsi muscle flap)
